She co-authored the book Life in the Shallows showcasing Aotearoa's wetland scientists and their work. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with volunteers and early-career scientists. Karen spent 10 years surveying Aotea for weeds, visited nearly every private property on the island and greatly enjoyed meeting the residents.
